i could not have said this better myself!   thanks sylvain for underscoring that important point!

what afrinic needs is not to have votes split amongst different factions;  the “enemy” already has more than 100 votes that they are going to be casting as a single entity.  to counter that, we simply can not afford to slit the vote.

to be clear - the short-list that i posted earlier, is not “my list”.  it is a short-list that was curated after consulting many, many people, including smart africa, governments, but primarily network operators from _across the region_.  there are many on this mailing list that collaborated in compiling this short-list!

there are definitely going to be candidates on this short-list that some voters don’t like;  there are also definitely going to be people you want to vote for separately.  but, it can not be about personal agendas.  it *MUST* be about the best chance of success against a better prepared, better resourced enemy.  and we can only do that, if we do not split the vote.

i point you to the current mess that is the united states, as a great example of what happens when you can’t stand united against a common foe ..
